Coaches-as-Mentors, Najaf, Iraq May 2010

FC Unity will continue the Coaches-as-Mentors programme in Najaf. The phase 2 of the programme will be the continuation of the Hope Tour launched in 2008 and the Coaches-as-Mentors programme phase 1 launched in September 2009.

The programme will include a series of leadership and citizenship seminars and workshops, coaching and refereeing clinics and a community football tournament organised by young locals.

This programme is supported by the Najaf Provincial reconstruction Team and the Governorate of Najaf.

June-July 2010 – 4th annual UNITY Cup programme, London, UK

The fourth annual UNITY Cup in 2010 will see 100 teams (up to 1000 players) take part in four regional qualifiers in North, East, South and West London. The finals will be held thereafter.

Teams will be drawn from London’s cultural/religious communities, charities, corporate companies, grass-roots football teams, professionals and civil servants.

Event locations are community football grounds in Islington, the Olympic Boroughs of Hackney  and Greenwich and Westminster.

The London UNITY Programme for 2010-12 will also include the following:

2nd annual UNITY Festival, Baghdad, Iraq – September 2010

Following the success of the inaugural UNITY programme and festival in Baghdad in May 2009, FC Unity and our partners are planning the 2nd annual UNITY festival in Baghdad. The month-long programme will include football tournaments for youth and community teams around Baghdad with finals held at Sha’ab Stadium.

In addition there will also be coaching and refereeing workshops, leadership and citizenship classes.

We aim to bring together teams from all parts of Baghdad, representing all ethnic, religious and social backgrounds, to promote unity and understanding and to work together for a new united Iraq.
