The Story
During the first day of the Hope Tour Najaf programme, we visited the Al Zahraa district where we were met by over 10 community teams. By the time we arrived it was late afternoon but the temperature indicator in the car still had 47C. These teams all came from the neighbourhood and were very well organised. We spent over 2 hours handing England football jerseys and footballs and took pictures with all the teams as they lined up wearing their new uniforms.
As we were leaving we were greeted by some of the younger players who were jumping around after being given their unexpected presents.
I can still see those smiles and hear their cheers.
