The Story
FC Unity, together with the Iraqi Army and 3rd Brigade Combat Team 82nd Airborne Division, organised a month-long combined-forces and community football festival in different parts of East Baghdad.
The finals were held at the national Sha’ab Stadium, where over 60 community teams, and 4 combined forces teams took part in the separate tournaments. The festival received global coverage and accolades on how football can unite people.
All participants received football uniforms and footballs and the 2-day finals became a symbol of national unity brought together by the game of football.
These young Iraqi players are part of the under 14’s district select team of the Al Amel district in and are wearing the Iraqi football uniforms they received on the day.
